About the Founder

The founder and director of Malhaar Music Academy, Purnima Rai Mathur, has music in her genes right from her birth. At the age of 5 she performed the song "Jaha Daal Daal Pe Sone Ki Chidiya Karti Hai Basera" during a republic day program. Her performance was praised by all and gave her the first recognition. That was THE START of her musical journey and music became a wonderful part of her life.

Encouraged by her parents Purnima started learning light music and rajasthani folk music, at a tender age, from her first guru -Late  Pt. Ram Lal Mathur to polish her talent. She got her initial exposure to light music and Rajasthani folk when she first recorded an album in the regional language ( Rajasthani ) titled " Panihari" and " Hathleva" under the banner of " Veena Cassettes".

Purnima has been a part of many live performances in front of eminent dignitaries of India like Rajiv Gandhi, R.Vekatraman and many others. She has also participated at various music competitions judged and mentored by various musical maestro like Ravindra Jain, Khaiyam, Jagjeet Singh, Chitra Singh, Bhupendra, Mitali, Pt.Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ahmed Hussain-Muhammad Hussain, Peenaz Masani, Vinod Tiwari.

As a professional radio artist and singer for All India Radio, Purnima started her musical career by performing on various musical programs at All India Radio, Jaipur, India. With the special talent, the opportunities were endless and soon she started performing as a TV artist at Jaipur Doordarshan.

In pursuit of her musical dreams Purnima was fortunate to get associated with ZEE TV by participating popular programs like SAREGAMA hosted Sonu Nigam in the 1996 and Close Up Antakshari hosted by Annu Kapoor & Renuka Shahne in 1995.

Purnima was later employed as music instructor at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur India a cultural association of Government of Rajasthan. 

After moving to USA in year 2001, Purnima got associated with organizations like “SARAGAM”, IACA and Ekal Vidyalaya. She has been performing for various charity shows and captivating audience with her charming personality, ability to connect to audience instantly and above all her musical ability, to give back to the community.  Purnima was fortunate to have shared the stage with Bollywood playback singer Sanjeevani Bhelande for Ekal Vidyalaya fundraising program. 

Purnima wishes to take her musical talent much beyond the film music and expand her horizon by spreading the musical knowledge to the community by founding “Malhaar Music Academy”.
